In Your Shoes (IYS) is a signature program of Georgetown’s
Laboratory for Global Performance & Politics. Drawing from techniques rooted in theatrical performance, IYS promotes deep listening, empathy, and trust among diverse participants through mutually respectful and creative exchange.
This two-part double session led by the In Your Shoes Research and Practice Center will feature a panel discussion as well as a hands-on IYS experience. The opening panel will include faculty, researchers, and IYS facilitators in conversation around what we have learned about how IYS influences teaching and learning. Situated in the scholarship of experiential learning, embodied ways of knowing, transformative learning, and scholarship through research, participants will learn about how engaging IYS practices can enhance classroom climate and promote meaningful learning outcomes.
The second part of the session invites participants to experience IYS. In this experience, we step into each other’s shoes—perform one another—and immerse ourselves in the process of learning where body meets mind. Through this authentic encounter, we explore who we are in relation to others, in the space of art and becoming.
Note: This session will be livestreamed.
